During the remediation of landfills in the Ilperveld Natura 2000 area, protected natural values were lost. The required compensation plan for these natural values is something entirely new in North Holland and an excellent opportunity for ACV to present current expertise in the field of 'natural layout'.
Close collaboration
ACV proposed the compensation plan in close collaboration with and commissioned by Landscape North Holland. The plan implies projects such as the creation of qualifying habitat types for the Northern vole, banks for the bullhead and a habitat for birds such as the snipe, bittern and marsh harrier. Another major issue is the recovery of peat moss accretion with future heath vegetation.
Creative approach
In order to map out the layout possibilities of this nature reserve adequately, ACV has proposed a plan of action in which first of all a quantitative analysis will be carried out:
- What compensation is needed per natural value?
- In which executed, current and future projects can compensation be allowed for?
The project required a highly creative approach and optimal possibilities that fulfilled the stipulations of the Nature Conservation Act. The compensation plan has been delivered in the meantime.
